‘High Tide, Storm Rising’ is the latest single from Skinshape, the solo project of Palace’s Will Dory. It’s a laid-back track that lets the crisp ride cymbal groove over some warm keyboard chords and a reverb-soaked guitar loop. Interjecting the almost jazzy texture are cinematic string sounds and a beautifully melodic flugelhorn. Vocals just aren’t needed in an instrumental as beautiful as this. “This song was written several years ago, it only came together during the writing of the Nostalgia album. The song is simple and the idea is that of a main theme song for a movie,” he explains. Skinshape, who has played the likes of Glastonbury and Shepherd’s Bush Empire as a member of Palace, has kept this project firmly studio-only.
